@hierarchon Random question: A couple months back you were posting about some kind of strategy RPGish kind of game that had really lo-fi graphics and most of its gameplay loop was figuring out team builds to overcome various missions.

I wanna say it was some free/cheap indie thing with a really on-the-nose name. I made a mental note to check it out then paged it out to /dev/null before I got the chance and now I wanna and don't remember enough about it to find it :D

Does this make any sense?

I want to have a talk with whoever configured the XDG mimetypes application database to prefer Chromium for any mimetype it can possibly open, over much better unitasker solutions.

We're talking "I installed Chromium to test Twitch's weirdness yesterday and now it's opening jpegs on my filesystem" here.

I do not envy the people behind tzdata this month.

I remember when Firefox... 4... or something dropped, Mozilla made this map that claimed to track downloads by country and it was all cool and interactive and...

No less than five groups went at them looking for blood because disputed regions were counted as part of one geopolitical entity or another.

That's basically what the tzdata folks are dealing with regarding Lebanon's DST incongruence because DST compliance is coming down to individual orgs and sometimes even people.

My science experiment in deliberately running `pacman -Syu` on my nodes via an ansible playbook so I don't see advisories and such finally blew a foot off after almost a year of doing it.

It was postgres 14->15, which basically just turned "You need to do this before you upgrade" into "The next time you reboot your services won't come back up til you do it"

I could claim the Nextcloud/php-legacy debacle counts except NO ONE handled that correctly, least of all the package maintainers.

capitalism, economics, death

The horrific clown show of capitalism makes a lot more sense if you begin with the postulate that economists and policy makers consider Just Dying to be an economic choice the system's victims make, rather than a violence forced upon them.

How they got to the point where they consider that an axiom at the base of their worldview? That's the part we'll never truly know, isn't it?

There's a bot that auto-posts furry art and it puts an apology in the image desc about how it's a bot and can't describe images and like...

First sure you can, store the desc with the image.

Second, is that actually better? From my sighted-but-cli-client-using perspective it just adds noise without actually conveying any usable information.

It's like the OTHER furry art bot that makes the image desc the list of tags assigned to the image on e926 or whatever. Is that... helpful? I genuinely don't know.

Oh boy I love now that I grumpily nuked my browser profile, I have to reteach it what javascript is annoying adware crap and what is "This life-critical website you have to use or your household does not have a major utility presents what looks like an input field but it's actually a <div> with the most god-awful seven-domain-deep Javascript input handler you've ever seen around it"

uspol in generics, existential despair

Dealing with the existential dread that, even if somehow we reallocated the crap out of the rich, instituted basic income, made health care a right, and ensured food and housing security... there's always be this specter of "Okay but what if the powers that be take it all away again?"

Living in a government where the first 2 years of every 4 year election cycle is "undoing everything the last group did" will do that to you. I'm not sure what we could burn down and rebuild in its place that'd shake this from my core.

Doesn't mean not to try though.

Okay well that was annoying. Near as I can tell Twitch has built this really awful browser/system fingerprinting system and it's brittle and if it breaks it just rejects your login claiming your browser isn't supported.

At the moment it seems to be breaking on some configuration. It might be a buildtime configuration on Archlinux browser builds, or heck it could be sunspots.

Whatever. I got a workaround, but now I'm grumpy so I'm gonna go be a dingus in a diner for a bit then do the stream.

Hm the decision on streaming may be made for vee.

I went to go fiddle with my Twitch Dashboard, was logged out, and now cannot log in because my browser is "Not supported". All browsers on my Linux box get the same result; I don't let anything sensitive touch my Windows box so I can't log in there.

I seem to not be the only one with this problem too.

What a day.
