Class of Heroes and Class of Heroes 2 have similar game flows as the original Might & Magic. Everything is pain and just getting to places you need to be to START exploring/questing/etc sucks. Then suddenly you hit the breakpoint where your mages get arbitrary map travel and the game becomes fun.

Elminage fixed this by making the overworld menu-travel instead. Later Might & Magic games fixed it with a healthy prevalence of fast travel.

Wizardry never fixed it though so here we are :P

I find it interesting that I followed this procedure to sunset my Pleroma instance:

1. Shut down pleroma itself so any requests got 502 Bad Gateway for 60 days
2. Shut down nginx on that box so connection attempts died for 30 days
3. Reimage the box, set up caddy serving a static txt file on all endpoints pointing persons toward the new instance for 14 days

and I'm still getting a ton of federation activities thudding against the box and retrying.

This feels like a squatting information leak risk.

Hm... Well I found something in GtS 0.7-rc1. Shame.

Remote videos don't play either through Pinafore or Tusky because 0B chunks get served until the API rate limit gets hit.

This might be fixed in PR1448... building to see.

I dunno who needs to hear this but anything that does something unwanted to a user's system to inflict harm/punishment on them is malware.

That includes "Forcefully reboot the box if the user does something the dev doesn't like"

That is malware and outrage is absolutely an appropriate response to being caught doing it.

A properly placed comma is the difference between "You are number six" and "You are, number six"

I want to stop jumping every time something emits an audible notification. It's been 4 years since that job. I can't completely mute some things. Why is this still a thing?

Roommates have to very, very quietly shuffle their feet at my door until I hear that before they speak or I scream. Everyone has to walk on eggshells around vee. I don't want that to be a requirement :/

The antithesis of the "Economics hat" I sometimes put on is the "Supervillainex visor/bodysuit" because every time I engage the part of my brain that thinks in the crooked-ass rules of capitalism, I get the overwhelming urge to wear an overwrought skintight shiny costume and burn down a bank.

economist rambling: demand for media vs falling quality of life in the US

The AMC/piracy thing actually brings up a point. Lemme put my economist hat on for a second.

The demand elasticity of leisure is far less than people who can afford leisure presume. You have to do things for yourself at least once in awhile or bad things happen psychologically and eventually physically (translation for econ nerds: loss of productivity). If we're thinking in a "rational" system where productivity has value, we should presume a baseline level of demand for leisure and entertainment that cannot be lowered further.

If demand is outstrips consumer ability to purchase, they will acquire these things other ways. The typical way right now is media piracy; in the 80s in some locales it was bootlegging. You can try to increase the cost of piracy to move the line where people jump to piracy but at no time will most people opt to simply not partake at all. That is not an option at the barest brass tacks level of demand.

(sidenote: we are presuming "leisure good" here to be a class of good with a lot of substitutes, which is not true in 202X but for a different reason that's an entire other longpost so meh)

If people are pirating your stuff in droves, that is a business failure on your part to provide your goods/services at even the most base accessible level of price and ease. As we as a society move further and further into leaving the non-rich with less and less to get by on, the line for how much you can profit off leisure before people begin pirating drops.

Therefore the most "rational" response to piracy by media orgs is not to make their stuff even less accessible, or increase price further to try to make up an income shortfall. It's to pressure other forces to increase the affluence of the populace and provide greater perceived value in the media versus cost.

AMC is changing to a pricing model that charges more for better seats in movie theaters.

The couch in my living room and bittorrent is still free.

Not wanting to be objective, fair or to evaluate both sides of an issue does not instantly make you a bad or unreasonable person. It states you consider revisiting a topic not worth your time and limited energy.

What the topic *is* that you consider not worth your time and why are what decide the morality of the act, not the existence of the act itself.
